Anatole France School

2, Rue du Diénat- Point de visite 07

Shortly before the war, on the right bank of the Cher river, it was the Diénat district’s turn to get a new school, dedicated to Anatole France. Construction took place during the years 1937 and 1938. To carry out these works, Marx Dormoy secured the services of talented, politically aligned local architects from Montluçon, such as Gilbert Talbourdeau Jr. and Pierre Diot. The latter, who also wanted to leave his mark on the Montluçon landscape through original creations, did not hesitate to blend styles, ranging from Art Deco for the Paul-Lafargue school to a Basque-inspired style for the Anatole-France school.
